Nineteen young children and two adults have died in a Texas primary school shooting.

The gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School, Uvalde where students are aged between seven and ten the shooter was then killed by officers, officials said.

Investigators said the 18-year-old suspect was armed with a handgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle and high-capacity magazines.

According to reports the teenager also shot his grandmother before the rampage.

Local media reports suggest he may have been a high school student in the area.

Pete Arrendondo, Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Chief of Police said the investigators believe the teenager “did act alone during this heinous crime” that began at 11:32 local time on Tuesday.

Greg Abbott, Texas Governor named the shooter as Salvador Ramos, he abandoned a car before heading into the school to horrifically and incomprehensibly open fire.

Two of the children killed in the shooting have been identified in the media as family members who confirmed the deaths of Amerie Jo Garza and Xavier Lopez both aged 10.

Father of Amerie, Angel Garza said, “My little love is now flying high with the angels above. Please don’t take a second for granted. Hug your family. Tell them you love them,”

So far in 2022, there have been 27 school shootings, and schools routinely rehearse what to do if a gunman enters their classroom.

It’s been a mere 10 days since ten people were killed in a New York mass shooting.

President Biden asked “why do we keep letting this happen” and “why are we willing to live with this carnage?”.
