If you share your Netflix with your Nan, Neighbour or Nigel from the pub, we’ve got some bad news for you and them! Netflix is currently testing a new feature to crackdown on people sharing their password with other households.
The streaming giant’s new measures came to light as some users have been receiving notifications asking them to confirm that they live with the account holder.
The message reads:
“If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.”
Recipients are then told to input a code, which is emailed or text to the account holder, to continue.
Although a number of profiles can be created on the platform, Netflix’s terms and conditions state the service: “may not be shared with individuals beyond your household”….
….Whoops!
As well as clamping down on people giving out their password to friends and family, Netflix has said it hopes its new measures will help with security. In a statement, Netflix said:
“This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorised to do so.”
Netflix is one of the world’s most popular streaming platforms and is renowned for its original films and shows like, Black Mirror, Bird Box and Bridgerton.
So, there you have it – it seems that some of us will have to stop Hijacking our friend’s accounts and actually pay to watch from now on.
