Dictionary.com announced they will adding Over 300 New Terms including “Woke” & “Rage Farming”

They have done this to keep pace with the constantly changing modern lexicon. Dictionary.com will add 313 new terms and 130 definitions to their online and mobile language resource. Every quarter, the website updates its content to reflect the latest trends and changes in the English language.

The latest update of Dictionary.com captures the snapshot of the world today, with new terms like “hellscape,” “rage farming,” and “trauma dumping” reflecting the great angst and uncertainty of our times.

On the other hand “deadass” and “petfluencer” reflect the growing influence of pop culture on language.

language is constantly changing.

According to John Kelly, the senior director of editorial at Dictionary.com, language is constantly changing, but the sheer range and volume of vocabulary captured in the latest update reflects a shared feeling that change is happening faster and more than ever before.

Interestingly, some of the new terms added to the dictionary are not actually new at all. Dictionary.com notes that “hellscape” has been in use since the 1890s, which illustrates how language evolves with time and how new meanings are attributed to words and phrases.

This goes to demonstrate that language is a dynamic and living system that changes based on various factors, including culture, technology, and societal norms.

Some of the new entries added to Dictionary.com include:

“rage farming,” a tactic that intentionally provokes political opponents by posting inflammatory content on social media to elicit angry responses.

“trauma dumping,” unsolicited sharing of traumatic experiences in an inappropriate setting.

“petfluencer,” a person who gains a large following on social media by posting entertaining images or videos of their pets.

The addition of these terms reflects the changing cultural landscape and the ongoing evolution of language as we know it.

In addition to “Woke” & “Rage Farming”, Dictionary.com’s recent update also includes “deadass,”. Deadass is a slang word that is used to convey sincerity, genuineness, or truthfulness.

It also added the word “woke,”. A term that has a negative connotation and refers to a liberal and progressive orthodoxy. The word emphasizes inclusive policies and promotes ideologies that welcome sexual, ethnic, or racial minorities.
