A nine-year-old girl who was fatally shot in Liverpool has been named while her killer remains at large.
A press briefing hosted at 12:30pm on Tuesday saw the police name the victim of the Knotty Ash shooting as Olivia Pratt-Korbel.
Detectives shared how both Olivia and her mother Cheryl were shot when a stranger gunman forced entry into their home on Kingsheath Avenue late Monday night while escaping a gunman.
Olivia was shot in the chest and Cheryl in the wrist while she was trying to block the shooter from entering their home.
CCTV shows two men walking down their road and they were approached by a person wearing dark clothes and a balaclava who opened fire at them.
Cheryl opened her front door to see what was going on when a man aged, 35, forced entry into her home in a bid to escape the gunfire.
Serena Kenned, Chief constable of Merseyside Police shared, “The man being chased forced his way into Olivia’s house and the offender ran in after him, firing a number of shots with complete disregard for Olivia and her family.”
Olivia’s family have said they have “no connection” with both the gunman and the man who forced entry.
Forensics believes that Olivia and Cheryl were hit with the same bullet as Cheryl tried her hardest to stop the gunman as Olivia stood behind her.
After hitting mother and daughter it’s believed the gunman continued firing hitting the 35-year-old man twice and then fled on foot.
The 35-year-old man’s friends picked him up and took him to the hospital while Olivia lay dying.
The chief constable said, “Sadly, Olivia was fatally wounded when the gunman fired at the man who was trying to get into the house,”
“The 35-year-old man who had been chased suffered a number of gunshots to his upper body. Whilst Olivia lay dying, he was picked up by his friends who took him to hospital.”
“Her family are absolutely devastated, inconsolable and heartbroken,”
“I know that the murder of Olivia has rocked our communities who are quite rightly upset and outraged that such an abhorrent crime has occurred here on the streets of Merseyside.”
A major murder investigation to find the person who shot this girl in Liverpool is underway.
