The one-eyed cat that had been missing for five years has been reunited with its owner after being found in a shipping container on an oil rig in the UK North Sea.
The black cat had been nicknamed “one-eye Joe” and “Cyclops” was shipped from Peterhead to the oil rig platform where workers fed the unusual guest chicken from their kitchen.
When filling out a safety card after discovering the feline workers noted that staff “ran away frightened” when he unexpectedly popped out of the container which was delivered by helicopter to the oil rig platform.
However, after their initial surprise scare had gone the staff warmed to the cute cat stating he was “spoilt rotten” during his time offshore according to Scottish Daily.
Not long after the feline’s surprising offshore discovery, the crew got in touch with the Scottish SPCA and an animal charity to arrange for him to be flown back to Aberdeen on the Scottish mainland the next day.
It turns out Joe is also a regular at Peterhead prison, where he is also spoilt by prison staff.
Residents from the area shared that Joe chooses to sleep at the prison as the staff “fuss over” him and he is also “much-loved”.
Following the publicity of the furry feline’s adventures, his owner came out to claim his real name is Dexter a pet cat that went missing five years ago!
The Scottish SPCA said, “We are so glad that he was well looked after for the time he was missing but we’re even more delighted to be able to reunite him with his original owner thanks to his microchip being up to date,”.
