Nandos are closing

The makers of the beloved Peri-Peri chicken, Nandos are closing around 50 of their restaurants in England, Scotland, and Wales due to the increasing ‘ping-demic’.

Nandos operate some 400 chicken restaurants in the UK which have recently been affected by supply shortages which have now become so bad, they have been forced to close some of their sites.

Some customers have taken to social media to express their hangry thoughts, to which Nandos has responded saying:

“the UK supply chain is having a bit of a ‘mare right now”.

But not all chicken lovers have been affected, with confirmation that Nandos are closing 50 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, but their sites across Ireland have not been affected because they have a different customs agreement due to Brexit.

There have been more delays this summer at the ports, affecting the freight and shipping services, but it’s not just Brexit that has clucked things up. The NHS Test and Trace app has seen a wave of workers being told to isolate after getting pinged.

KFC has admitted that they’ve had similar issues and have said that it means some of their items will not be available on the menu and that some of their packaging “may look a bit different to normal”. They went on to say:

“There has been some disruption over the last few weeks, so things may be a little different when you next visit us”

And it’s not just our chicken which is being affected. There’s believed to be an estimated 100,000 delivery driver shortages, forcing major supply companies to reduce their deliveries to supermarkets across the UK, even resulting in some shelves being left bare.

Industry bosses gave a warning last month about the supply chain shortage, saying that it’s under “increasing pressure” due to the “ping-demic” hitting so many drivers and meat-processing staff.

So how much longer do we need to hen-dure this chicken shortage? Well, Nandos has said that the delivery situation is changing rapidly and is advising us to visit their website for updates before heading out to their restaurants.
