Fortitude Plans $100M Zcash Mining Expansion
Fortitude Mining is preparing for a significant expansion of its Zcash operations, with plans that could see the company spend as much as $100 million on next-generation mining equipment. The move represents another major investment in ZEC mining and could substantially increase Fortitude’s position within the Zcash network.
The company has entered into a letter of intent with mining hardware manufacturer BITMAIN, giving Fortitude priority access to a new generation of Zcash mining machines. Although the agreement does not guarantee that the entire $100 million will ultimately be spent, it provides a clear indication of the scale Fortitude is considering.
The proposed Fortitude $100M Zcash mining expansion also comes as the company continues to increase its power capacity, acquire additional equipment and develop its own mining infrastructure across the United States.
Fortitude Secures Access to New Zcash Mining Hardware
A key part of Fortitude’s expansion involves securing mining equipment before BITMAIN’s newest Zcash-focused machines become widely available.
Under the agreement, Fortitude will receive priority allocation for the upcoming hardware. This could prove valuable if demand for the machines is high once commercial sales begin.
Fortitude is already expanding its existing fleet.
Earlier in 2026, the company agreed to purchase 9,000 BITMAIN Antminer Z15 Pro mining machines for approximately $31.5 million. Once operational, those machines are expected to add around 7.56 GSol/s of Equihash mining capacity.
The potential $100 million investment would go considerably further.
Rather than simply maintaining its existing operation, Fortitude appears to be preparing for sustained growth in Zcash mining. Access to newer and potentially more efficient equipment could allow the company to increase production while also improving its operating economics.
Why Is Fortitude Expanding Its Zcash Mining Operations?
Zcash has become an important part of Fortitude Mining’s wider digital asset strategy.
ZEC is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that continues to use a Proof-of-Work consensus mechanism. This means miners remain essential to the operation and security of the network.
Fortitude has been involved in Zcash mining for several years. The company’s leadership began mining ZEC in 2019, when its operations were still connected to Foundry.
Since then, the business has developed a much broader mining operation.
Fortitude now has experience across mining hardware, power infrastructure, equipment repairs and operational management. This approach gives the company greater control over several of the factors that determine whether cryptocurrency mining remains profitable.
Its existing share of Zcash production is already significant.
During the first six months of 2026, Fortitude reported mining 72,696 ZEC. That was equivalent to around 28% of total Zcash network production during the same period.
Expanding its mining capacity further could therefore have a noticeable impact on Fortitude’s share of future ZEC production.
Fortitude Builds a Larger US Mining Network
Mining equipment is only useful when operators have sufficient power and infrastructure to run it efficiently. Consequently, Fortitude has also been expanding the physical network supporting its Zcash operations.
The company currently has access to more than 60 MW of contracted power capacity across seven mining locations in the United States. Its operations span several states, including South Dakota, Nebraska, Texas and New York.
Fortitude has also started developing more of its own infrastructure.
In July 2026, the company brought a 12 MW mining facility in Grand Island, Nebraska, online. The site marked an important milestone because it was Fortitude’s first self-developed mining facility.
Building and controlling more infrastructure could give Fortitude greater flexibility over future expansion.
It could also help the company manage one of the biggest expenses facing cryptocurrency miners: electricity.
Lower Costs Could Be Crucial for ZEC Mining
Cryptocurrency mining is highly competitive, and profitability depends on much more than the market price of the asset being produced.
Electricity prices, mining difficulty, hardware efficiency and maintenance expenses can all influence margins. As a result, reducing the cost of producing each ZEC could become increasingly important as Fortitude expands.
The company has previously indicated that its Nebraska facility, combined with newer mining equipment, could substantially reduce its direct cash mining costs.
Fortitude estimated that its direct cost could fall to around $40 for each ZEC mined, compared with approximately $70 previously.
That reduction could be significant.
If Fortitude can combine cheaper power with more efficient BITMAIN hardware, the company may be able to expand its mining output without allowing operating expenses to increase at the same rate.
However, cryptocurrency mining conditions can change quickly. Rising network difficulty, changes in ZEC’s market value and increasing energy costs could all affect future profitability.
Financing the $100M Zcash Mining Expansion
Fortitude is also strengthening its financial resources as it prepares for further growth.
The company has increased its credit facility with Digital Currency Group from $50 million to $70 million. At the time its latest plans were announced, approximately $42.7 million of borrowing capacity remained available.
This funding could help support the BITMAIN agreement.
As part of the proposed arrangement, Fortitude must provide a refundable deposit worth 20% of the potential equipment commitment. If the company proceeds with the maximum $100 million order, this would represent a $20 million deposit.
Fortitude intends to use its credit facility to meet this requirement, with the funding expected to be provided in ZEC.
Having access to additional financing could allow the company to secure hardware while retaining flexibility over how quickly its wider mining expansion progresses.
What Happens Next for Fortitude and Zcash?
Several important factors will determine what happens next with the Fortitude $100M Zcash mining expansion.
Firstly, BITMAIN’s new Zcash mining machines have not yet received a full commercial release. Their final performance, efficiency and cost will therefore be closely watched.
Fortitude must also decide how much of the potential $100 million equipment allocation it wants to use. The current agreement is non-binding, so the eventual order could be considerably smaller than the maximum figure.
Meanwhile, the company still has thousands of Antminer Z15 Pro machines to incorporate into its wider mining operation. Their deployment alone is expected to produce a substantial increase in Fortitude’s Equihash hashrate.
The company is also pursuing wider corporate growth. Fortitude previously announced plans for a business combination with HeartSciences. If completed, the combined business is expected to operate under the Fortitude name and could trade on Nasdaq under the proposed ticker TUDE.
Together, these developments point towards a much larger ambition.
Fortitude Makes a Major Bet on Zcash Mining
The proposed Fortitude $100M Zcash mining expansion highlights the company’s confidence in the long-term role of Proof-of-Work cryptocurrency mining.
Fortitude already operates a substantial ZEC mining business. It has significant power capacity, thousands of new machines on order and growing control over its own infrastructure.
Securing priority access to BITMAIN’s next-generation equipment could take that strategy another step forward.
There are still uncertainties. The $100 million figure represents a potential commitment rather than a completed purchase, while future Zcash prices and mining conditions cannot be guaranteed.
Nevertheless, Fortitude is clearly preparing to scale.
If the company ultimately proceeds with a substantial portion of the planned investment, its already significant presence within Zcash mining could grow considerably. The next major developments will be the release of BITMAIN’s new equipment, Fortitude’s final purchasing decision and the deployment of its expanding mining fleet.
For Zcash, that makes Fortitude one of the mining companies worth watching closely as the network moves into its next phase.
