Dog Saves 81-Year-Old Wheelchair-Bound Man After Falling Into Pond

The 81-year-old man was taking his dog on her morning walk around the pond when his electric wheelchair lost grip. Soon after he found himself in the pond nearly drowning if it wasn’t for his dog who saves him.

Harry Smith’s electric wheelchair wasn’t able to grip in the boggy dirt and began to slide down the embankment causing him to topple his wheelchair and fall into the water in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Mr Smith needed immediate help as he couldn’t swim and had to fight to stay afloat.

Knowing her owner was in a life-threatening situation, Sarah Jane started barking like mental which got the attention of two passersby across the street.

The bystanders Edward Suhling and Jacob ran over to the pond and managed to get the attention of a local police officer.

The three of them wasted no time and began to help Smith out of the water in which he was submerged up to his neck. Luckily, he wasn’t injured and was well enough to be sent home.

We can’t say the same for his electric wheelchair, unfortunately, so the first responders pushed him back to his home with his dog wagging her tail all the way.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department wrote on their Facebook page; “The saying remains true…A man’s best friend is his dog,”.

Smith grinned and said, “I gave her a treat, I love her so much.”
